Woo-hoo!

Amazingly enough, I’m all but finished. The bookmarks, address book and all the existing e-mail has been transferred. I’ve customized practically everything.

Left to do:

  • I have a few image files that are in an incompatible format and will have to be converted.
  • Windows allows some characters in file names that the Mac doesn’t like. Those files will have to be renamed.
  • I need to find a driver for my pen tablet.
  • I need to figure out how to post pictures.

Notes for any one else converting:

  • To advance the cursor one word, use option-left arrow/right-arrow (instead of Ctrl-left arrow/right-arrow)
  • To advance to the end of the line, use command-right-arrow
  • To advance to the beginning of the line, use command-left arrow
  • iChat is compatible with AIM (so it seems; haven’t tried either, myself)

I love this keyboard. It’s very smooth. I do feel like I have to wash my hands before using this white keyboard.

Almost There

I’ve managed to move all of my Firefox bookmarks and half of my Thunderbird e-mail folders. The PC and Mac versions are compatible. Now all I have to do is find the other half of my e-mails (all the knitting and blog items).

Right off the bat, the worst annoyance I have with the Mac is that the Home and End keys don’t work like they do on a PC. In fact, I can’t see what they do at all. I mentioned this to J, and he can’t even place them on the keyboard.

Oddly enough, there is knitting content. I’ve started a baby blanket. I do have an actual baby in mind as the recipient, but we’ll see how long it takes. She could be grown up before I finish.

I’ve been playing with the Cascade 220 Tweed yarn I bought a couple of weeks ago. Yuck. It knits up coarsely and unattractively. I guess it’s suitable for horse blankets and scouring pads, but I don’t know any horses and an don’t particularly like the smell of wet wool.

I have to get ready for work. Later

Currently listening to: a garbage truck and the B63 bus.

And my youngest brother turned 40 yesterday. We are all now over the hill. Happy Birthday, D1
