This cap fits a small, bald head (22″), not too loosely, not too tightly.

Two balls, different colors, Filatura di Crosa Millefili Fine cotton, 5 st per inch. They yarn seems lighter than worsted, but heavier than sport.

CO 96, using crochet provisional cast on #2 circs or dpns

Rnd 1: With color A, *K16, place marker* (unless you like counting)
Rnd 2-18: *k*
19: *Kb&f, k2tog, k14*
20: *k1, Kb&f, k2tog, k13*
21: *k2, Kb&f, k2tog, k12*
22: *k3, Kb&f, k2tog, k11*
23: *k4, Kb&f, k2tog, k10*
24: *k5, Kb&f, k2tog, k9*
25: *k6, Kb&f, k2tog, k8*
26: *k7, Kb&f, k2tog, k7*
27: *k8, Kb&f, k2tog, k6*
28: *k9, Kb&f, k2tog, k5*

50: BO and use crochet hook to attach last loop to beginning loop of rnd, then draw remaining thread into inside of hat. This should give you a ring effect. Don’t sweat it if it doesn’t. It’s the top of your head.

Remove provisional CO and thread circ or dpns into loops. Try to get all the loops in the right direction.

Purl one round in color A.

Repeat rnd 1-4 in color A.

Finish hat in color B. Before beginning decreases weave loose ends in.

Invert one side of hat into the other and use the loose end to secure the two ‘ends’ of the hat together.

K2tog gives you a slashed effect. Using ssk will result in a less drastic gap. I used k2tog on the black and ssk on the orange.[30 Mar '05-3 Apr '05]
