Getting There and Not
Posted on Friday, 18 March 2005, 23:38Getting There: Only forty rows to go on the Spring Scarf and twenty-odd ends to weave in. Hurrah. Of course the afternoon highs in Lubbock are now in the seventies.
And Not: One of the disadvantages of having a car in NYC is the alternate side of the street parking rule; every few days you have to move your car so that the streets can be swept. One beneficial side affect is that you actually have to start your car periodically. Assuming of course you park on the street and not in your own off-street space.
This morning I had an appointment to take the car for a tune-up and inspection. I was clean and ready to leave at 7am. I go out to my off-street parking spot, notice the that the birds had so far spared my windshield. The weekly snowfall has some benefit. I get in the car and turn the key. Nothing. It did click a few times, but basically nothing.
I walk to work. I don’t drive in icy or slushy weather, being phobic of my fellow New Yorkers’ automotive skills (and my own). I’ve all but forgotten the car in the last month or so. Lesson learned. New appointment next Friday. All I have to do now is find someone with jumper cables. And a car that will fit through our shoebox driveway.
Look what came today:
I haven’t decided if I’m going to be really corny and actually carry it.
It would have been nice if they had they’d gotten their printer aligned first.
Currently listening to: Politik by Coldplay
P.S., I guess children aren’t always horrid.
