This is Not a Health Report
Posted on Friday, 11 February 2005, 23:13I left work early (an hour and a half on a Friday, whoopee) with the beginnings of a cold. While drinking some herbal tea, I tried the “Basic Faggoting Stitch” from Barbara G. Walker’s A Treasury of Knitting Patterns (p. 184). I’m sad to say that I kept messing it up. And I thought it would come naturally.
So I switched to something harder, Pine Trees, Version I (p.164) in mustard gold sock yarn on a #2 needle, just 29 stitches. It turned out pretty good; I think I’ll redo the gearshift mitten in it in black sock yarn: three repeats across and two up, then decrease in big chunks.
Then I tried the faggoting pattern again and screwed it up again.
Then I tried Brioche (p. 45), which turned out good enough that I should find someplace to use it, though I can’t imagine having the patience to do anything sizable in sock yarn.
